Beliefs

Our congregation consists of folks with a wide range of theological beliefs, political opinions, and family structures. We are Black and White; Straight and Gay; Single, Divorced and Married. We are united by our love for Christ and desire to serve God.

Wherever you are on your journey: You are invited to worship with us and you will be welcomed when you visit!

Our covenant statement describes the faith and purpose of our church fellowship:

“We confess our faith in God, our love for Jesus Christ, our Savior, and our willingness to be guided by the Holy Spirit. We covenant, as members of the Church, to walk together in Christian love, obedient to the teaching of the Holy Scriptures, and to submit to the government and discipline of this Church until we are regularly released there from. This we do for the glory of God, for the good of the Christian community and for our mutual growth in Christian grace, seeking to do all in faith, fellowship and service, in the Spirit of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Our constitution affirms a commitment to model God’s grace and love:

“The Winslow Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, is committed to model God’s grace and love in this community and welcomes everyone to Christ’s house for worship and fellowship, regardless of their race, sex, age, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation or disability.”

The congregation has also adopted the following welcoming statement:

In Christ there is no longer Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for all are one in Christ. ~Galatians 3.28.

Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. ~Romans 15.7

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.   This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. ~ Matthew 22.37-39.

Our church family, as the body of Christ in the world, affirms all God’s children and welcomes them with open arms.  All are welcome at God’s table and as full participants in our church life, regardless of societal labels.  Our congregation is composed of a unique blend of people, from near and far.  We value free thinking, difference of opinion, and exclude no one from any discussion or event.  We approach faith with an open mind, and acknowledge that each person is on a unique faith journey.  As a congregation, we enjoy numerous spontaneous, annual, and community events. We take an active part in charitable works in our community and beyond.

No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome in this Church.
